After Delivery

Postnatal Care & Recovery in Wakad, Pune

Recovery check-ups, C-section wound care and breastfeeding support, so you and your baby settle in well during the weeks after birth.

The weeks after delivery matter as much as the pregnancy itself, yet this is often when mothers get the least attention. Postnatal care makes sure that you are recovering well, as well as your baby.

Physical recovery

We check how you are healing after a vaginal delivery or C-section, including stitches and wound care, bleeding, pain, blood pressure and anaemia, and look out for postpartum complications such as infection or heavy bleeding.

Breastfeeding support

Breastfeeding is natural but not always easy at first. We help with positioning and latch, common problems such as sore nipples or low supply worry, and guidance on diet and rest while feeding.

Newborn care

A paediatrician is available for newborn follow-up visits, so your baby’s growth, feeding and general health can be checked alongside your own recovery.

Emotional wellbeing

Feeling tearful in the first few days is common. If low mood, anxiety or exhaustion persist, it is important to say so — postnatal depression is common and treatable.

Family planning and getting back to health

At your follow-up we discuss contraception and spacing of pregnancies, returning to exercise, pelvic floor recovery, and any health concerns carried over from pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes or high blood pressure.

Follow-up visits are scheduled so that both you and your baby are recovering well. Dr. Supriya Gaikwad sees you at Astral Hospital, Pink City Road, Wakad — the same doctor who followed your pregnancy.

FAQs

Common questions

When should I have my postnatal check-up?

Usually about six weeks after delivery, with earlier visits for wound checks or if you have concerns. Mothers who have had a C-section or a complicated delivery may be seen sooner.

How long does recovery after a C-section take?

Most women are up and walking within a day, and feel substantially better after 4–6 weeks, although full recovery can take longer. We guide you on wound care, activity and lifting.

What is the right time to start contraception after delivery?

Fertility can return earlier than expected, even while breastfeeding. Options can be discussed before you leave the hospital and at your follow-up visit.

What symptoms after delivery need urgent attention?

Heavy bleeding, fever, foul-smelling discharge, a wound that is red or leaking, severe pain, breathlessness, or feeling persistently low or unable to cope. Contact us promptly.
